Mayor Pokharel Announces Ban on Tobacco Products in Kankai Municipality
Baniyani, July 16: According to Kankai Municipality of Jhapa Mayor Rajendra Kumar Pokharel, the sale and use of tobacco products will be prohibited as of tomorrow (July 17), as decided by the town assembly meeting following the formulation of an act.
While speaking at the announcement, Mayor Pokharel emphasized that the ban on tobacco products is driven by concerns over health and environmental risks. The prohibition will take effect from tomorrow, and he urged everyone to comply with the municipality’s decision. This initiative is part of the municipality’s campaign to transform Kankai into a clean, beautiful, well-managed, and developed local area.
According to the municipality’s Chief Administrative Officer Mohan Prasad Neupane, a violation of the directive and selling of tobacco products will be subject to a fine of Rs 50,000. Additionally, a fine of Rs 5,000 will be imposed in case of the consumption of tobacco products at public places.
