Birgunj, July 20: The metropolis has initiated the dismantling of structures, private houses, business, and institution buildings that encroached upon public land. The demolition drive targeted buildings housing Classic Hotel and Corporate Bank, as they disregarded the metropolis’ repeated calls to remove the structures. Mayor Rajesh Man Singh stated that these structures were constructed alongside the main drain of the city.

“While speaking at the incident, Mayor Rajesh Man Singh further added, “The demolition drive is in accordance with the Civil Code, 2074 BS (1) (A), and aims to remove structures that have encroached upon the land along the city’s drain. This is part of a cleanup campaign in the area.” He noted that the encroachments posed a risk of flooding in the city during rainfall. The Chief Administrative Officer of the municipality, Laxmi Prasad Paudel, highlighted the necessity of removing such encroachments to prevent potential flooding.

The demolition team, comprising metropolis employees led by Ward 5 Chair Pradip Chaurasiya, who is also the coordinator of the public structure encroachment control committee formed by the metropolis, has been deployed to carry out the task.
