Dhangadi, Oct 8: Five days after the earthquake in Bajhang, people still can’t stay safely inside their homes. The earthquake damaged houses, making them unsafe to live in. Many people have to sleep outside in the cold.

Anil Singh, a resident, said, “It’s too cold, and our homes are damaged, so we can’t stay inside. But sleeping outside is making us sick.”

People are scared to stay indoors because aftershocks keep happening. Most homes in the area are still shaking, making it hard for people to stay inside. Even going into their homes is risky.

Sleeping outside in the cold is making kids and old folks sick. Since Tuesday, schools in Bajhang and nearby areas have been closed because of the aftershocks. The earthquake damaged over 62 houses completely, with many others partially damaged.

It’s challenging to know exactly how many houses were affected due to ongoing aftershocks. Bharat Bahadur Shah, a local police officer, said, “We can’t collect all the details because of the aftershocks and the fear of more damage. We’ve formed a team to check things, though.”

The Prime Minister promised to give 50,000 Nepalese Rupees to each family to rebuild their homes. Local leaders also visited the affected areas.

As the region deals with the earthquake’s aftermath and ongoing aftershocks, the community’s strength and help from the government and aid groups are crucial to help them recover and rebuild their homes.
