Kathmandu, Sept 21: The United Nations has warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East may lead to further destruction. Rosemary DiCarlo, the UN’s head of political affairs, addressed the Security Council, referencing Hezbollah’s use of pagers and walkie-talkies in the conflict.

UN human rights chief Volker Türk expressed concerns that widespread attacks on Israel could be considered war crimes. Israeli UN envoy Danny Danon did not directly address the bombing but emphasized that Israel would take necessary actions for its defense.

The Security Council held a meeting to discuss the crisis following Hezbollah’s use of communication devices in the conflict. Volker Türk stated that targeting civilians in Lebanon through such actions violates international law.

Hezbollah confirmed that senior military commander Ibrahim Akil was killed in an Israeli airstrike in Beirut on Friday. Israel had previously reported his death alongside other senior Hezbollah officials. Lebanese authorities reported that the airstrike in Daheh, a Hezbollah stronghold, killed at least 14 people.

This was the first Israeli airstrike on Beirut since July, and Hezbollah’s military leader Fuad Shukar was among those killed in the latest attack.
