Xi Jinping Reaffirms Commitment to Taiwan Reunification
Kathmandu, Jan 1: Chinese President Xi Jinping has issued a firm warning to pro-independence forces in Taiwan, emphasizing that no one can prevent the island’s reunification with China. Speaking during his New Year’s address on December 31, Xi reiterated China’s claim over Taiwan, describing the island as an inseparable part of the nation.
Over the past year, China has ramped up military pressure on Taiwan, with frequent airspace violations and warship movements near its borders. Taiwanese officials have condemned these actions as efforts to normalize China’s military presence in the region.
Taiwan, a democratically governed island of 230 million people, has consistently rejected Beijing’s claims. The Taiwanese government maintains that its future must be decided solely by its citizens, urging China to respect their sovereignty.
In his televised address, Xi Jinping stated, “The people of Taiwan and China are one family. No one can break our family bond, and no one can stop Taiwan’s reunification with China.”
The escalating tensions highlight the growing divide between the two nations, with global attention focused on the potential ramifications of the conflict.
