Trump Expresses Optimism About US-Russia Peace Talks on Ukraine War

Kathmandu, Feb 19: US President Donald Trump has praised the peace talks between the United States and Russia, held in Saudi Arabia, as “very good” and expressed confidence that they could help end the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Following a meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Trump said he felt “more confident” about the prospects of peace. He stated that Russia is eager to end the conflict, emphasizing the loss of thousands of soldiers every week, calling the situation “stupid” and “senseless.”
Trump added, “If I had been president at that time, this (war) would never have happened.”
While the peace talks are a step forward, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy raised concerns, stating that transparency is essential and expressing surprise that Ukraine was not included in the discussions. He called for more open dialogue through the media to ensure that decisions are made with Ukraine’s involvement.
