Kathmandu, Jul 7: US President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that he would impose an additional 10 percent customs duty on any country that supports what he called the “anti-US policy” of the BRICS group. Both India and China, neighboring countries to Nepal, are members of BRICS.

Posting on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump stated, “Any country that agrees with the anti-US policies of the BRICS will be subject to an additional 10% tax. No one will be exempt from this.”

However, he did not provide any specific details or examples of what policies he considered anti-American.

BRICS was originally formed in 2009 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, with South Africa joining later. In 2024, the group expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
