Qatar Mediates Immediate Ceasefire Between Pakistan and Afghanistan

Kathmandu, Oct 19: Qatar has successfully brokered an immediate ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan during high-level talks held in Doha.
In a statement, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry announced that both nations agreed to establish a mechanism to ensure lasting peace and stability along their shared border. Committees representing both sides will meet in Doha and Islamabad to discuss monitoring and effective implementation of the ceasefire.
Qatar expressed optimism that the agreement will ease escalating tensions on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, calling it a “decisive first step” toward regional stability.
According to GeoTV, Pakistani Defense Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed the agreement and voiced hope that it would bring an end to ongoing hostilities. He also stated that delegations from both sides will reconvene in Istanbul on October 25 for further dialogue.
The ceasefire follows weeks of deadly clashes along the border, which claimed several civilian lives, including three young cricketers. Afghanistan’s Taliban-led government accused Pakistan of violating the previous truce and targeting civilians, while Pakistan maintained that its security forces were striking “terrorist camps” in the North and South Waziristan border areas.
