Kathmandu, Nov 27: A Bangladeshi court has sentenced former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to 21 years in prison on charges of abusing her power while in office.
According to BBC News Bangla, her daughter Saima Wajed and son Sajib Wajed have each been sentenced to five years in prison.
Delivering the verdict, the court stated that land had been distributed to Hasina and her family outside the legal jurisdiction and without any formal application. The decision was issued by Dhaka’s Fifth Special Judge, Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun.
This ruling follows an earlier decision by Bangladesh’s International Criminal Court, which had sentenced Sheikh Hasina to death in a separate case.
