Minister Gurung pledges collaboration with journalism groups and organizations

Kathmandu. Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung underscored the importance of discussions and collaborations with the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and other concerned organizations and told that he values their suggestions.
In a meeting with the officials of FNJ at the minister’s official residence in Pulchowk today, Minister Gurung stated that policies, laws and bases for the benefit of the field of journalism will be prepared during his tenure. He added that he would always stand for the conservation and promotion of press freedom, professional and organizational development of press and for the rights of the journalists.
Chairperson of the federation Govinda Acharya told that he congratulated Minister Gurung for a successful tenure and informed him about FNJ’s expectations from the government in solving the current problems in the field of journalism. The officials stressed that in the post-covid scenario, serious discussions need to be hold between the media owners and the working journalists to prepare a plan of mutual cooperation. The FNJ also requested for the preparation of laws according to the National Mass Media Policy – 2073 and implement federalism and inclusiveness with a restructuring in the journalism field.
Minister Gurung had assumed office on October 15.
