Rank of honorary General of the Nepali Army to be conferred on Indian COAS Naravane on Nov 5
Kathmandu. Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane is making a formal three-day visit to Nepal from November 4 on the invitation of COAS General Purna Chandra Thapa.
According to the Nepali Army (NA) Directorate of Public Relations and Information, President Bidya Devi Bhandari will confer the rank of honorary General of the Nepali Army on the Indian Chief of Army Staff on November 5. There is a tradition between India and Nepal of conferring each other’s army chief the rank of honorary Generals.
NA spokesperson Brig Gen Shantosh Ballave Poudyal informed that General Naravane will have a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is also holding the portfolio of the Ministry of Defense. Similarly, General Narvane and COAS Purna Chandra Thapa will meet and hold formal discussions.
An interaction program between the Indian army chief and trainee officers at the Command and Staff College is also in the schedule, spokesperson Poudyal said. General Naravane will take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Bir Smarak at the NA Pavilion in Tundikhel and receive the guard of honor at the NA Headquarters.
