Fire ravages community forests in Humla

Simkot. A wildfire engulfed Chela and Singhmachhiyu community forests at Simkot Rural Municipality-4 in Humla on Thursday afternoon causing heavy damage to the flora and fauna in the forests.
The fire erupted in Chela community forest at 12:00 noon and spread to Baldejuda area in Singhmachhiyu. The fire was brought under control on Thursday evening by police personnel and local residents. Every year Humla experiences wildfires with the onset of dry season.
National News Agency (RSS) mentions Chairman of Simkot Rural Municipality-4 Chhabichandra Lama saying that thousands of plants and wild animals have been destroyed in the fire. Pine, juniper and alder trees and medicinal herbs worth millions that had been preserved by the local community since 1995 have been destroyed, he said.
