Malaysia’s ex-prime minister’s statement creates chaos
Kathmandu. France has witnessed two terrorist attacks in fifteen days. The attacks which started by killing a teacher who showed Prophet Mohammed’s cartoon in a classroom, was continued by killing of innocent people outside a church.
The French government has taken action against Muslim organizations which caused tensions to grow between France and other Muslim nations around the world.
Malaysia’s ex-Prime Minister, Mahathir Mohamad stated that, “Muslims have a right to be angry and to kill millions of French people for the massacres of the past” through his Twitter handle. His tweet came right after the terrorist attack in Nice. He further added, “But by and large, the Muslims have not applied the ‘eye for an eye’ law. Muslims don’t. The French shouldn’t. Since you have blamed all Muslims and Muslims’ religion for what was done by one angry person, the Muslims have a right to punish the French.”
Cédric O, a junior minister in France, who handles the digital industry and communication spoke to the Managing Director of Twitter, regarding urgent removal of the tweet. Some of the tweets were flagged but others remained.
Mahathir’s tweet has created a chaos in the global community, although he has been known for his outspoken views.
