Airlines soaring without selling tickets
Kathmandu. The coronavirus pandemic brought along with it an exorbitant amount of losses in all forms. With people’s lives being endangered on the health related aspect, financial turmoil was inflicted onto businesses as well. One of the major backlashes felt was by the airlines industry soon after the inhibited travels.
The anticipation of the end of this grave time has allowed room to lead forward. Airlines companies presently are making money from everything else but selling tickets.
As per the data compiled by Bloomberg, reported on the Economic Times, bonds worth $88 billion have been issued in 2020 alone which is more than half of the $153 billion that the industry had sold in the past forty years.
The Airlines industry is issuing new shares amounting to $27 billion as a whole, equalling the amount raised in the past 6 years through this approach. Some companies such as, EasyJet Plc, Air Canada, Wizz Air Holdings Plc and United Airlines Holding Plc sold and leased their carriers for financial influx.
Whilst working on these approaches seemingly appear hopeful, a difficult time may appear leading to restructuring or bankruptcy. There is only so much an industry can do beyond its major activity, i.e. providing transportation facility.
The COVID-19 induced situation is likely to bring more hardship, which will require undoing in the days to come.
