Peaceful sit-in demanding the reopening of border checkpoints in Sarlahi
Sarlahi. With the demand of opening of Gorakhkali-Nepal-India border checkpoint, the Joint District Struggle Committee on Tuesday organized a peaceful sit-in on the highway near the border on Tuesday.
According to the Committee, the Government has sealed the border for 8 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, due to which the thousands of lives residing and working near the borders of both India and Nepal have been badly hit with poverty, hunger and unemployment. The Chairman of District Coordination Committee, Methur Chaudhary further warned – “If the government does not open the border in time, more agitation programs will be announced after the Chhath festival”.
Assembly member, Upendra Prasad Kushwaha, claimed that the federal government has lagged behind in taking any initiative to solve the problem despite repeated requests to bring the safety provisions like coronavirus test desk and security check operations and reopen the border checkpoints.
The meeting of the struggle committee on Monday decided to organize a sit-in on Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. RSS.
