Indian Foreign Secretary Shringla makes a courtesy call on PM Oli
Kathmandu. Visiting Secretary of Foreign Affairs of India Harsh Vardhan Shringla, who is on a two day official visit to Nepal, has made a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Press advisor to the prime minister Surya Thapa informed that Shringla met PM Oli at his official residence at Baluwatar.
The meeting dwelled on the topic of strengthening the ties of friendship between Nepal and India. PM Oli has reiterated his message that he wanted the present border issues and other problems with India to be solved via talks, source close to Baluwatar told DCNepal.
The map debate between India and Nepal had created a disturbance in the otherwise smooth relationship between the two countries. India had been reticent towards Nepal’s call for dialogue in the past. This is the first formal diplomatic step India has taken towards solving the problem.
The Indian Secretary of Foreign Affairs Harsh Vardhan Shringla had met with Nepali Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali before making a courtesy call on PM Oli. Prior to that Shringla had bilateral talk with his Nepali counterpart Bharat Raj Paudyal.
Indian Foreign Secretary Shringla is scheduled to address a program on Nepal-India relationship before his departure to Delhi on Friday.
