Kathmandu. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has told  the government to provide proper compensation ensuring right to housing and property to the people whose houses had been demolished  against the Supreme Court’s verdict by the Kathmandu Valley Development Corporation.

In a  press statement today, assistant spokesperson of NHRC Loknath Baskota noted that  NHRC wanted to draw the attention of the concerned body towards the violation of people’s right to shelter by demolishing the houses of some locals at Balaju, Baneshwor, Khokana and other areas in the Kathmandu valley.

The Kathmandu Valley Development Corporation carried its road expansion drive forcefully even during the festivals and damaged the properties of the public and making them devoid of their shelter.

The NHRC has told that in their monitoring of those places, they have found that those affected by the road expansion program have been provided neither compensation nor an option for new settlement.
