Kathmandu. Members of the Nepali Congress Central Working Committee (NC CWC) have suggested the party to launch a nationwide protest against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR).
According to a central member, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba proposed a nationwide protest on Dec 30. Senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel, however, opposed the idea stating that Dec 30 was National Reconciliation Day and as the dissolution of government was not related, the protest date should not be linked with it. He opined that the party had to stage protest against the unconstitutional step of the government before that.
Talking to DCNepal, the central member quoted leader Poudel: “We have protested against the dissolution of the HoR at the meeting of the office bearers. What does it mean to protest but not go to the streets against it? As a responsible opposition party we have to show our presence in the streets; otherwise, others will control the reins in the streets and take our position.”
On Wednesday’s meeting, four members of the CWC – Gagan Thapa, Bal Bahadur KC, Ananda Dhungana and Dr Ram Sharan Mahat – had expressed their views. All speakers emphasized on staging street protests.
The NC CWC meeting chaired by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba has been running since Tuesday in order to forma a consensus against the government’s act of dissolution of the HoR.
The meeting will resume at 1:00 pm on Thursday at the central office, as per the chief secretary of the party Krishna Prasad Poudel.
