With a Global Hunger Index (GHI) of 26.0, South Asia, has scored one of the highest hunger and undernutrition levels among all the world regions, second only to Africa South of the Sahara that has a score of 27.8. The Global Hunger Index (GHI) has showcased that Nepal has a moderate score.

Below is the provincial representation of the GHI for Nepal:

As per the GHI the major takeaway of the report, is that the world is currently not on track to achieve the Zero Hunger target that falls under the Sustainable Development Goals of 2030. The SDG agenda is built towards ensuring that children achieve “sufficient and nutritious food all year.”

Currently 600 million people globally are undernourished, and amongst them, “144 million children suffer from stunting, a sign of chronic undernutrition; 47 million children suffer from wasting, a sign of acute undernutrition; and in 2018, 5.3 million children died before their fifth birthdays, in many cases as a result of undernutrition.”
