Over 7.7 million COVID-19 cases in India, 117 thousand lives lost

New Delhi. The number of people infected with COVID-19 in India has reached 7.76 million as of Friday morning. India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare stated that 54,366 new infections and 690 deaths had been reported in the past 24 hours.

According to the Ministry, 695 thousand people are still actively infected, while 69.48 million people have recovered. As many as 117,306 people have succumbed to the virus in India as of yet. The most affected state in India is Maharashtra where 159 thousand people are actively infected. The state’s current death toll pertaining to the pandemic is 42,633.

Another heavily affected state is that of Karnataka where at present there are 100 thousand active cases. 671 thousand people have recovered, while 10 thousand 696 people have died. In the state of Kerala, there are 93 thousand 527 active cases. As many as 268 thousand people have already recovered while 1,232 people have lost their lives.

There are 35 thousand active coronavirus infected people in West Bengal, 35 thousand in Tamil Nadu, and 24 thousand in New Delhi. The Indian Health Research Council has tested almost 100 million samples of coronavirus across the country.
