11 months of COVID-19: Vanuatu’s first infection

Kathmandu. It has been 11 months since the coronavirus infection began to spread in humans. The virus, which was known to have started in China in December last year, has reached almost every country in the world. However, there was one country that had not seen a single case, and the first COVID-19 infection was identified yesterday.

Vanuatu, an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, saw its first case of COVID-10 yesterday. Within the geographic proximity of Australia and Papua New Guinea, not a single person had been found infected, prior to this. The first infected person is a 23-year-old Vanuatuan who had returned from the United States on November 4. As per AP News, he was found infected on Tuesday during a regular check-up five days into quarantine post his return.

Authorities have stated that they are seeking to quarantine all passengers who had been on the same flight as his, and others in contact with them. The United States is currently the most infected country in the world with more than 100 thousand new infections recorded every day, for the past seven consecutive days. leading up to the total number of infected people to be more than 10 million.
