Kathmandu. February 11. Scientists have suggested that climate change is enabling the evolution of the new variants of Covid-19 virus by creating  “hotspots” for multiple bat species.

In the research article published in the journal “Science of the Total Environment”, the authors have described that Southern China, Myanmar, Laos and the neighbouring regions have seen the immigration of around 40 species in the past century. These bats have brought around 100 types of Coronaviruses with them.

The study also claimed that the emergence of two viruses, SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 viruses that caused Covid-19 infection is the result of the shifting vegetation induced by the climatic changes.

These changes include higher atmospheric CO2 levels, increased temperature, changed rainfall patterns and reduced clouds.
