Kathmandu, May 14. The Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) has decided to produce oxygen cylinders in Nepal. The academy aims to make the cylinders with locally available materials.

Senior technical officer at NAST Shankar Dhakal has said that since Nepal has no infrastructures available to make the cylinder, testing design and set-up has to be made on their own. He also has consulted and collaborated with engineers from the industrial sector for the project.

Since bringing oxygen cylinders from China proves to be expensive, producing those in Nepal seems to be feasible. If the produced design passes the pressure test, then industries can easily produce oxygen cylinders in a commercial manner.

They have tried to design as per the oxygen cylinders that are imported from China or India.

If they are successful in producing the oxygen cylinders in Nepal itself, it will be a great help in combatting the dangerous second wave of COVID-19 in Nepal.
