Kathmandu, May 28. The Syrian parliament announced on Thursday that President Bashar al-Assad has won his fourth seven-year term in this year’s elections.

Hamoudeh Sabbagh, the parliament speaker, said that Assad won 95.1 percent of the vote, who had competed with a low-profile opposition leader. He revealed that 14 million Syrian voters had cast their vote from inside and outside Syria.

The Syrian government has been encouraging voters to cast their votes for the “future of Syria.”

Assad’s win was highly anticipated and huge crowds gathered in Umayyad Square in Damascus, the capital to celebrate Assad’s win.

This term will be Assad’s last term as per the new Syrian constitution adopted in 2012.
