Kathmandu, Aug 19. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has revealed on Wednesday that UAE has welcomed President Ashraf Ghani and his family “on humanitarian grounds”.

Ghani had fleed his country on Sunday night after the Taliban took control of the Afghan capital Kabul. The Taliban has said on Tuesday that it intends to form an inclusive government in Afghanistan and does not want to have any internal or external enemies.

Ghani: I fled to avoid being hanged

President Ghani has further said through a video that he fled Kabul to avoid being hanged like former president Mohammad Najibullah, who was hanged 25 years ago. He also said that he left with no belongings and had to do so avoid further bloodshed.

Ghani had said in an event on August 4 that he would not flee, but did the opposite. After he fled, his cabinet members were furious and said that Ghani sold the country.

Through his video message, Ghani said that he is in talks with Taliban for the peaceful transfer of power and seeks to return to Afghanistan.
