Kathmandu, October 29. The government of New Zealand has announced that it will set up a new Ministry for Disabled People by mid-2023.

Carmel Sepuloni, a member of the national parliament, told local reporters that the country’s service system for disabled people is severely fragmented. As a result, the government is attempting to establish a new ministry in order to put all services and facilities under one direction.

The ministry will be operated by a board of members who will represent disabled communities. The Accessibility Governance Board will also be led by a team of disabled people. ‘In this way, the voices of the disabled population can play a key role in the decision-making,’ Sepuloni explained.

‘In the early stages of operation, the new ministry will be supervised by the Ministry of Social Development, which will ensure proper usage of existing resources and services,’ Sepuloni stated.
