Kathmandu, February 24. The Universal United Taekwondo Federation (UUNTF), a joint body of taekwondo players, coaches and referees from around the world, has objected to the Taekwondo instructors being made irresponsible by the Nepal Taekwondo Association (NTA). A wave has been created in Taekwondo after the head coach was made irresponsible by the national team’s training association. Due to which the players did not even get the opportunity to train regularly. The sport of Taekwondo was once known as the number one sport in Nepal and was the ‘leader’ of South Asia.

According to a statement issued by UNNTF President Santosh Pradhan, the association has been discouraging the instructors from falling behind in taekwondo. The UNTF has called on the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the National Sports Council and the federation to immediately investigate the recent incidents in Taekwondo and take action against the culprits.

The UNNTF has expressed concern over the resumption of violence against taekwondo players and coaches, which could affect taekwondo training. “Those who work for the development of selfless sports have started falling prey to some of the officials in the union,” he said. The role played by head coach Navin Kumar Shrestha while participating in the 13th fair game in Nepal is well known. At that time, Nepal had succeeded in returning the lost dignity but now the work of giving grief to the same coach has started.

It is mentioned in the press release that the association has an old strategy of embarrassing those who talk against them. It has been alleged that General Secretary Dipraj Gurung has a single decision within the Taekwondo Association and that he has long used the Association to further his personal ‘interests’. Some taekwondo instructors say, “Even after the establishment of the republic in Nepal, Taekwondo is still ruled by the autocrat as it was during Rana regime.” But no minister or member secretary has taken this issue seriously.

Taekwondo practitioners living abroad have been drawing attention to this issue.  It is also alleged that many renown player and coaches of Nepal compelled to live in foreign land due to the miss conduct of NTA. the Universal United Naples Taekwondo Federation was established in 2014 and has been encouraging and supporting the Nepali Taekwondo family in various disciplines and fields.
