Kathmandu, June 9. Waste management in Kathmandu has been quite an issue. The waste has not yet been able to be collected by the authorities resulting in dumping of waste on the roads.

An agreement was reached between officials of Ministry of Urban Development, Kathmandu Metropolitan City and locals of Sisdol and Banchare Danda on Monday. The waste was to be collected from Tuesday, but locals on the morning of the same day obstructed the waste trucks and did not allow the waste to be dumped on the site.

Further, lawmaker Dr Bhim Bahadur Rawal revealed that government should not escape from the responsibility of garbage management and should not put the lives of people at risk. He said so at the House of Representatives meeting on Thursday.

Moreover, a meeting between the officials of the government and protestors is scheduled for Friday. Urban Development Minister Ramkumari Jhankri, Nuwakot Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat, ward chairs of Dhading and Nuwakot and protestor committee’s coordinator Shri Ram Dhungana will be participating in the meeting. The meeting will take place at 8am at the Ministry.
