Kathmandu, April 4. The Ministry of Health and Population announced on Monday that Nepal is experiencing an increase in coronavirus infections due to the seasonal cold.

“New variants of the coronavirus, such as Omicron XBB 1.16, have been discovered in neighboring countries, leading to a rise in infections in Nepal,” Ministry’s official spokesperson Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari told reporters.

Adhikari further said, “The National Public Health Laboratory recently tested 24 samples, all identified as Omicron variant. In 24 samples, eight sub-variants of the Omicron strain were confirmed.”

The Ministry has called for the cooperation of multiple sectors and coordination in terms of vaccination and adherence to public health standards to prevent the spread of COVID-19, which is still not fully under control.
