Sankhuwasabha, July 14 : Ninety-seven households, who were displaced after a massive landslide at Silichong Rural Municipality two years ago, are obliged to live a harsh life due to the lack of proper resettlement plans.The landslide at Besinda village resulted in the displacement of 97 households and the unfortunate disappearance of 11 individuals, leaving a significant impact on the affected families.

While speaking at the situation, rural municipality chairman Bhupalraj Mewahang expressed concern over the indifferent attitude of stakeholders towards the displaced households. He further added, “Out of the 97 households, 25 are residing in Chitre, 12 in Bakhaltumtar, and the rest in the district headquarters of Khandbari, living under temporary tarps.”

Mewahang noted, “We are facing budget constraints, which hinder our ability to support the households in constructing permanent shelters.”

Media reports suggest that the rural municipality has decided to provide Rs 550,000 to each of the displaced households to assist them in building their homes. However, despite the purchase of 69 ropani of land at Bhairedanda in Kandbari Municipality-7 for the resettlement of 55 households, no decision has been made regarding the initiation of building construction.
