Government Commits to Joint Efforts with Private Sector for Energy Sector Advancement

Kathmandu, July 15: Minister of Energy Shakti Bahadur Basnet has expressed the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the private sector for the development of the power sector.

“While speaking at a meeting with a delegation from the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI),” Minister Basnet emphasized that approximately Rs 2000 billion would be required to generate 10,000 megawatts of power at the current production cost. He further added that this initiative would have a far-reaching influence on the economy.

He noted that the government is preparing to announce an ‘energy decade’ aimed at the overall development of the energy sector in the country.

Minister Basnet made these remarks during the meeting with CNI representatives, reaffirming the ministry’s readiness to collaborate with the private sector for the development of the energy sector.

Earlier in the discussion, the newly-elected chairman of CNI, Rajesh Kumar Agrawal, along with other office-bearers of the organization, visited the ministry to hold talks on the country’s economy and energy sector development, among other important matters.
