Kathmandu, July 16: Traffic police have taken action against 149 drivers who were driving under the influence of drugs during the fiscal year 2079/80 in Kathmandu.

While speaking at the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad Bhatta, spokesperson of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, stated that the drivers who were operating vehicles while under the influence of drugs were taken into custody, and necessary action was initiated against them.

He further added, “In collaboration with Nepal Police Hospital and Narcotics Control Bureau, the office conducted a special drive to identify and check drivers for drug abuse at various locations within the Kathmandu Valley.”

SSP Bhatta also mentioned that among the drivers caught driving under the influence of drugs were those operating public vehicles, which is considered a serious offense due to the potential risk it poses to the lives of passengers.

In a bid to enhance public safety, the Office urges passengers to immediately report any suspected cases of public vehicle drivers being under the influence of drugs. They can do so by contacting the nearest police office, the traffic control room hotline number 103, or the police hotline number 100.
