Kathmandu, Mar 24: In a recent development in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill has been fined Rs 12 lakh due to a late over rate during their match against Chennai Super Kings.
During their second match of the IPL season, Gujarat Titans faced Chennai Super Kings, where it is alleged that the team deliberately maintained a slow pace during the game. As a result, Shubman Gill, as the team’s captain, has been penalized with a fine of Rs 12 lakh.
The IPL authorities released a notification confirming the fine and mentioned that since this is the team’s first offense, they have been fined the minimum amount as per the IPL code of conduct.
Gujarat Titans had a mixed start to their IPL campaign, winning their first match against Mumbai Indians but facing a defeat in their subsequent match against Chennai Super Kings. In the match against Chennai Super Kings, the Titans struggled to chase down a target of 207 runs set by their opponents, managing to score only 143 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
While the fine serves as a disciplinary measure, it also underscores the importance of maintaining proper over rates and pace during IPL matches, ensuring a fair and timely completion of games as per league regulations.
As the IPL season progresses, teams are expected to adhere to the rules and regulations set forth by the IPL governing body to uphold the spirit of the game and maintain the integrity of the competition.
