Meta Unbans Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram Accounts
Kathmandu, Jul 13: Meta has unbanned former President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts ahead of the US presidential election in November.
The former US president’s accounts were suspended in 2021 after he praised supporters of the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. Trump was also convicted in connection with this case.
Meta noted in a blog that Trump has more than 60 million followers across all Meta platforms. His accounts were reinstated in 2023, but all restrictions have now been lifted as his accounts are subject to additional monitoring.
Meta stated that it is their responsibility to allow political expression and that Americans should have an equal opportunity to hear from the presidential candidates.
“US presidential candidates will be subject to the same community standards as all Facebook and Instagram users, including policies against hate speech and incitement to violence,” Meta said.
