Ukraine Launches Drone Attacks on Russia, Damages Buildings; Russia Responds with Missile Strikes
Kathmandu, Aug 28: Ukraine launched several drone attacks on Russia on Monday, causing damage to multiple buildings in two major cities and injuring one woman.
Russian media reported that Ukrainian drones targeted an air base in the city of Engels. Russia’s air defense system attempted to intercept the drones, but some managed to cause damage.
One drone reportedly crashed into a high-rise building in Saratov, while another struck the roof of a building in Engels. The debris from these crashes damaged several vehicles. A video published on the Telegram channel Mash shows a drone crashing into a 37-story residential building, causing an explosion. The attack damaged windows on three floors of the building, but no fatalities have been reported.
Saratov Region Governor Roman Busargin confirmed the incident, stating that a woman has been hospitalized in critical condition. Authorities are providing assistance to others at the scene.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed to have shot down 20 Ukrainian drones across different regions, including Saratov, Kursk, Bryansk, Belgorod, Tula, Oryol, and Ryazan. Seven drones were reportedly involved in the attack on Engels, though details about the debris and further damage remain unclear.
In response, Russia launched missile attacks on Ukraine, with explosions reported in the Kiev, Lutsk, and Poltava regions.
