Father Arrested After Son’s School Shooting Incident in Georgia, Faces 14 Murder Charges
Kathmandu, Sept 11: A father has been arrested following a tragic school shooting at Apalachee High School in Georgia, USA. Colin Gray, 54, the father of the accused shooter, Colt Gray, faces 14 charges of murder, according to Reuters.
Reports indicate that if found guilty, Colin Gray could face 10 to 30 years in prison, while his son, Colt, a juvenile, could be sentenced to life imprisonment if convicted.
The shooting occurred last Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of four individuals, including two teachers and two students, while nine others were injured. Police apprehended Colt Gray, 14, the alleged shooter, and charged him with four counts of murder. Despite his age, Colt will be tried as an adult.
Authorities revealed that Colt used a semi-automatic weapon in the attack, which is being investigated to determine whether his father gave him the weapon in December 2023. Colt had previously made threats of a mass shooting on social media in May 2023, prompting police to visit his home, though no arrest was made at the time as his father assured authorities of no future incidents.
The incident has drawn comparisons to another case in Michigan earlier this year, where the parents of a school shooting suspect were convicted and sentenced to 15 years in prison, marking one of the first instances of parental accountability in mass shootings.
