Landslides Displace 33 Families in Khotang, Disrupt Festival Celebrations
Khotang, Oct 7: The family of Dinesh Rai in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-1 has been living in a nearby church for a week after their house was swept away by a landslide on October 12. Like them, 33 other families across the district have been rendered homeless due to the continuous landslides caused by incessant rains.
Local authorities have provided temporary food and shelter to the displaced families, but concerns remain as the relief may not be sustainable. The flooding has also severely impacted business activities and disrupted travel plans for many residents, with several roads and bridges washed away.
Efforts are underway to restore the blocked roads, but the damage to homes and infrastructure has been extensive, making it a difficult festival season for many families.
