Real Madrid Advance to Champions League Last 16 After Victory Over Manchester City
Kathmandu, Feb 20: Spanish club Real Madrid secured a spot in the Champions League last 16 after defeating Manchester City 3-1 on Thursday morning.
With this victory, Real Madrid led the overall playoff 6-3. Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick for Real, netting goals in the 4th, 33rd, and 61st minutes. Manchester City’s Nico Gonzalez scored in injury time, but it wasn’t enough to turn the match around.
Real Madrid will face either Atletico Madrid or Leverkusen in the quarter-finals. The club is a former Champions League winner and remains a strong contender.
In other matches, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), and PSV also advanced to the last 16. Dortmund progressed with a 3-0 aggregate lead after a goalless draw against Sporting in the second leg. PSG advanced with a commanding 10-0 overall win after beating Brest 7-0. PSV defeated Juventus 3-1 in the second leg, securing a 4-3 aggregate lead.
