Dozens of people change their name to ‘salmon’ to get restaurant offers in Taiwan, official urges people to stop
Kathmandu, March 18. A two-day promotion of a Taiwanese restaurant has left dozens of Taiwanese people changing their names. The promotional offered all-you-can-eat sushi meal along with five friends if your id card consisted of “gui yu”, the Chinese name for salmon.
A Taiwanese official has then requested people to stop changing their names as there was a sudden surge in government offices to change their name to salmon.
Taiwan allows people to change their names three times, but officials said that these kinds of name change causes unnecessary paper work and wastes time.
Some of the names that were changed included “Explosive Good Looking Salmon”, “Salmon Prince”, “Meteor Salmon King” and “Salmon Fried Rice”.
The phenomenon was named “salmon chaos” by the local media and as far as 150 young people visited government offices to change their names.
