Kathmandu, April 5. Sri Lanka’s newly appointed Finance Minister Ali Sabry has resigned just a day after being sworn in.

Sabry said in a letter to president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, “I hereby tender my resignation from the post of Minister of Finance with immediate effect.” He was due to visit the US next month for discussion of the crisis with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Sabry was previously the justice minister.

His step comes after President Rajapaksa’s efforts for a coalition government with the opposition failed.
