Astounding Success: NASA’s OSIRIS-REx Returns Asteroid Treasure to Earth!
Kathmandu, Sept 25: NASA’s OSIRIS-REx mission successfully brought back a capsule filled with rocks and dust from the asteroid Bennu. The capsule landed in a specific area near Salt Lake City, Utah. It’s crucial to keep these samples pure for scientific study, so they are being kept in a clean room filled with nitrogen.
These asteroid samples, around 8.8 ounces or 250 grams, will be sent to NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston. Scientists there will examine them, distribute pieces to researchers worldwide, and learn more about how our solar system formed and how life on Earth began.
This achievement is a result of years of hard work and collaboration, from launching the spacecraft in 2016 to safely collecting the samples from Bennu in 2020 and bringing them back to Earth. It marks an exciting new chapter in our exploration of the solar system.
