Gautam Gambhir Appointed Head Coach of Indian National Cricket Team
Kathmandu, Jul 9: Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian national cricket team.
Jai Shah, secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced that Gambhir will take over the role. Gambhir, a key player in India’s 2011 World Cup-winning team, was previously the head coach of the IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders, leading them to victory this season.
Gambhir will replace Rahul Dravid, whose tenure as head coach ended after the recently concluded T20 World Cup.
As an opener for the Indian cricket team, Gambhir played 58 Tests, 147 ODIs, and 37 T20 Internationals. During his career, he scored 4,154 runs with 9 centuries and 22 fifties in Test cricket, 5,238 runs with 11 centuries and 34 fifties in ODI cricket, and 932 runs with 7 fifties in T20 cricket.
