Nepal’s First International Balloon Festival Adds Vibrancy to Pokhara’s Tourism

Pokhara, Dec 25: Nepal’s inaugural international balloon festival, launched in Pokhara, is set to boost tourism in the scenic city. Organized by Balloon Nepal Pvt. Ltd., the festival runs for nine days from December 21 at Fewa Field near Fewa Lake, coinciding with Christmas and New Year 2025 celebrations.

The event features a variety of attractions, including sunrise and sunset balloon flights showcasing views of Fewa Lake, the Annapurna Himalayas, and nearby villages. Other highlights include night balloon glows, fire shows, cultural performances such as the Kumari dance of Kathmandu, and Christmas Eve celebrations.

Balloon Nepal President Bikram Bade stated that the festival aims to promote adventure tourism and position Pokhara as an international tourist destination. The participation of balloon pilots from 15 countries and 17 hot air balloons of diverse designs has added a global appeal to the event.

Local organizations and authorities, including the Pokhara Metropolitan City, Nepal Tourism Board, and Gandaki Province Government, are supporting the festival. Pokhara Tourism Council Chairman Taranath Pahari emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for revitalizing tourism and enhancing the city’s global identity.

Brand ambassadors Rajesh Hamal and Priyanka Karki are attending the festival, which features commercial flights in the morning, evening programs, and free shuttle services for visitors.

Balloon Nepal has been conducting commercial balloon flights in Pokhara since 2017, and this festival marks a milestone in further internationalizing Nepal’s tourism offerings.
