Kathmandu. The US Embassy in Kathmandu has raised concern over some misleading information about US visas, being published in Nepali media lately. The embassy clarified through its official Facebook page that there had been no such change in its visa policy as spread by the media.

News were rife in Nepali media yesterday (Monday) about the change in US visa policy which barred Communist party leaders and cadres from receiving US Green Card or Citizenship.

In  its statement, the US embassy said  that he confusion arose after the issuance of an administrative guidance regarding immigration to the US which mentions a 1952 Act which  bars people from immigrating to the United States on the basis of membership in, or affiliation with a Communist or any other totalitarian party.

The Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) of 1952 has its specific purpose and doesn’t affect visit visas on the basis of political beliefs, the embassy clarifies.

As per the embassy’s statement, the new guidance does not restrict Nepal Communist Party members from immigrating to the US as each visa case is examined on an individual basis.
