Kathmandu, Sept 24: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has revoked the United States’ membership, citing repeated breaches of obligations and administrative failures. The decision was made at an ICC board meeting and announced through a statement issued on Tuesday.

“After an in-depth review of the organization’s operations since last year and extensive discussions with relevant stakeholders, it has been decided today to suspend USA Cricket’s membership with immediate effect,” the ICC said in its statement.

The ICC stated the move was taken to ensure the safety of athletes and their participation in cricket at the Olympics. It emphasized that its priority is to ensure the suspension does not affect players or the game.

Despite the suspension, US national teams will continue to participate in ICC events, including preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The ICC said USA Cricket had failed to implement the required administrative structure, made no progress toward obtaining national administrative body status from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and damaged the reputation of cricket both in the US and globally.
