Former President Bhandari Extends Greetings on Prithvi Jayanti and National Unity Day
Kathmandu, Jan 11: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has extended her best wishes on the occasion of the 304th Prithvi Jayanti and National Unity Day, saying the day helps strengthen social harmony, tolerance and national unity.
In her message, former President Bhandari said the occasion should inspire citizens to uphold national dignity, freedom, sovereignty and prosperity. She described the unification of small and divided states into a modern Nepali nation as a proud chapter in history, achieved despite conflict, instability and hardship.
“We must recognize the historical truth that Nepal’s independent and sovereign existence was preserved due to the leadership and sacrifices of our heroic ancestors,” she said.
Bhandari noted that today’s sovereign, independent and democratic republic of Nepal was built upon the foundation laid by the unification process. She expressed pride in Nepal’s land, history and culture, and emphasized the importance of learning positive lessons from history as a mark of a civilized society.
She added that the teachings of Prithvi Narayan Shah remain relevant today, especially in promoting national self-reliance, economic independence and a balanced foreign policy.
