Nepali Army to operate its air-transport to drop soldiers home during Dashain
Kathmandu. In the past years, 24 per cent of the Nepali Army soldiers were allowed to go home on leave for Dashain. However, this year, the army has adopted a policy of not allocating leave for the festival.
Spokesperson of the Nepali Army, Brigadier General Santosh Ballave Poudyal told DCNepal that soldiers who have to go home for urgent work will be transported by the in- house vehicles. The decision was taken considering the increased risk of spreading the virus while travelling on public transport.
At present, Nepali Army has three big helicopters, three small helicopters and three sky trucks and a 42-seat airplane. All of these vehicles shall be operated during the activity.
Those residing in the Terai will be transported through flight after which the nearest barracks will drop them home on a bus. Helicopters will be used in hilly and mountainous areas. The same arrangement will be made to bring them back.
The returning soldiers will be kept in quarantine and deployed to work only after PCR tests.
