Kathmandu, December 29. China had recently sent a high-level delegation to re-unite the NCP on December 27. The four-member team, lead by Guo Yezhou, vice minister of Communist Party of China (CPC), met President Bidya Devi Bhandari, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and NCP (Prachanda-Madhav faction) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), another Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal and senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal on Sunday and Monday.

It is said that the Chinese delegation was disappointed after the meetings. First, the team met the president on Sunday, then met PM Oli and Prachanda on Monday.

A leader close to Prachanda said, “If the parliament can be restored, PM Oli can be given continuity. A meeting point can be found if they help to restore the parliament.”

The team also re-met PM Oli taking the concerns of Prachanda. PM Oli said, “I am not going to restore the parliament, I am going for a fresh mandate as per the people’s demands. The matter has already gone to the Supreme Court and the matter is out of my hands.”

The talks, however,  did not seem to work. It is said that Prime Minister Oli also lamented over the fact that the Prachanda-Madhav faction had threatened to overthrow him, comparing him with King Gyanendra. He added that as he was elected by the people, it was right to go for a fresh mandate and seek the help of people again.

Sources claim that the Chinese team came to the conclusion that its mission would not succeed after Prime Minister Oli said that he could not restore the parliament and that only Supreme Court could do that now. The Chinese delegation had arrived in Kathmandu on a special flight on Sunday after the NCP split.
