Kathmandu. A massive breakdown occurred in the power transmission system of Pakistan on Saturday night leaving millions of people in darkness.
Through his official Twitter handle, Pakistani Power Minister Omar Ayub Khan announced that the fragile web of the national power grid was affected by a sudden drop in frequency. The national grid supplies electricity to nearly 210 million people around the country.
The power collapse at 11:40 pm local time also affected international airports as well as the internet connectivity in major cities. “The fault tripped the transmission system of the country… leading to the shutdown of power plants,” Khan said.
The ministry announced that the energy will be fully restored in all areas within the early hours of Sunday.
