Growing Chinese concern: Foreign Minister Wang Yi to visit Nepal

Kathmandu. Minister for Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China Wang Yi is paying an official visit to Nepal. As per the news source from Foreign Ministry, Yi is visiting Kathmandu for few hours on the last week of November.

The activities of the Chinese ambassador to Nepal regarding the internal conflict of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has been a matter of curiosity for all. It is speculated that the Chinese Foreign Minister’s visit is also concerned with the NCP affair.

Wang, however, is not on a direct visit to Nepal. He is visiting some other Asian nations and will make a brief stopover in Nepal. During the visit, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang will pay courtesy calls on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and some senior leaders.

It appears that Chinese Foreign Minister Wang and Indian Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla will land almost simultaneously at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

China had kept a dormant foreign policy with Nepal in the past but has begun involving aggressively of late. Foreign experts claim that China has started playing at the micro-management level in Nepal.

The present visit of the Chinese foreign minister coincides with the crisis in the the NCP but the ruling parties of both countries, NCP and the Chinese Communist Party, have also organized experience sharing programs in the past.
